!Not All Pets Are Dye Candidates!

Some pets do not tolerate two baths and a full haircut/trim in one sitting, which is required for semi permanent and permanent creative dyes. The coat must be clean and professionally dried. Also, some pets are allergic to the natural plant and food dye. It’s not so much the dye, but the plant and food used in the dye. Some pets have food and plant allergies. There’s no telling what plant or what food is used as a dye with OPAWZ. So we keep in mind pet allergies and grooming service tolerance before opting to dye. Chalking or colored pens are other options if dyeing is not optional.

What’s the difference between semi permanent and permanent?

Semi permanent fades over time and turns pastel like and barely noticeable. Purple, Orange and Red take longer to fade being strong colors. Eventually they wash out over a couple months. Unless it’s a double coated pet or naturally short haired pet that doesn’t get haircuts, it will take longer for it to fade. Potentially years. If you’re thinking to use black, there is not a semi permanent black with opawz, only permanent.

Permanent doesn’t fade, it softens like a washed black shirt. Over time, haircuts and baths, it loses the brightness, but the color remains present.

Things to be aware of:

There is a lot about coloring pets that is enjoyable and to be aware of. The dye is natural and safe for all pets, the common issues are pets being allergic, color slowly fading over the course of one or four years and not being able to switch out colors without shaving or starting over.

The allergy part happens because some pets get itchy or red bumps to grass, certain plants and foods. Natural dye is not hypoallergenic, its extracting the color from various plants and food, nontoxic to pets. Not all pets have the same allergies. Like some are better candidates to be temporarily chalked than dyed.

The dye color slowly fading away over the course of an entire year happens because the natural dyes got into the hair follicles and guard hairs. This causes no health issues. This does no damage. It can result in new growth being the color stuck. It can result in being ‘stuck’ for months or a year and some. It’s unclear how to prevent this. It’s unclear why it sometimes happens different dogs. There are theories its because dye was done during a growth cycle, a certain shampoo and conditioner opened up the hair follicles.

The switching of colors works to an extent. Some colors we cannot cancel out to put the desired color in. Resulting in a start over or a wait-it-out period. Otherwise, utilizing the color wheel and color theories to get a different color in.
